Yoga

The captivating thing about yoga is how far beyond the surface it goes.

The fitness world has fully embraced its results on the physical body. Taking up a practice will definitely increase strength and flexibility. But the truly amazing part is all the tools yoga gives us to find balance in our body, emotions, and mind. It’s the little things we can take off the mat that change the way we experience our lives. It is these “hidden gems” of the practice that I share in my teaching.

My intention is not to instruct but to educate and empower you with the incredible tools yoga offers up for a more connected, conscious, joyful way of living.

WHAT I TEACH

Meditation

Meditation is one of the most profound practices you can take up for life changing effects.  It heals and balances the physical body and the mind. The meditation I teach takes it deeper with practices to clear and focus the mind, balance and tune the energetic centers of the body and tap into the innate wisdom that exists in each of us. The clarity, perspective, self resolve and consciousness gained can bring profound shifts to our work, relationships, health and well-being.

The teachings I share provide breathing and visualization techniques to quiet the mind and shift your energy.  These techniques make it easier to sit in meditation. A consistent practice connects you to spirit, the source of inspiration, intuition, and wisdom that lies within each of us. Specific meditations can be used to

  • Set intentions
  • Clear and tune the energy centers in the body
  • Distribute healing energy throughout the body
  • Release the conditioning that keeps us locked in our patterns

Yoga Asana

Asana, or the physical postures we know as yoga here in the west, are tools we can use to balance the physical body and the energy lines that run through us. The true benefits of a pose are received when we activate them with our breath. My classes cultivate an awareness of the breath and the energetic body. I offer options to take more physically challenging poses if you'd like but they are not the goal of the practice. The ancient teachings that I share focus on cultivating a deep internal awareness.

Restorative Yoga

A practice of resting poses where the body is fully supported by props and the floor. Poses are held for a longer period of time to allow tension in the muscle and fascia to soften. This is a practice that is about receiving energy in and provides the physical body a chance to deeply relax and the mind to settle. I recommend incorporating restorative poses into a regular practice but it is especially helpful when recovering from illness or an injury, during pregnancy, when you are experiencing high levels of stress, or when you just feel like you need to slow down.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra or "Yogic Sleep" is a meditative practice you do lying down using visualization. It can be used to deeply relax the physical body and release patterning from the subconscious and unconscious mind. It is said 20 minutes of a yoga nidra practice can be equivalent to 4 hours of regular sleep to the body!

Yoga & Essential Oils

I often incorporate the use of essential oils into my classes for their ability to shift energy and consciousness. I offer private classes that integrate a number of therapeutic grade essential oils that are purposefully selected and placed on particular spots on the body to help shift energetic and emotional patterns and deepen the experience of the pose or meditative practice.
